As you are aware, the Little League softball program is experiencing rapid growth
nationwide, and our PA District 8 and 14 is also expanding its program. Currently, the
following leagues offer softball: Gettysburg, Bermudian, Penmar, Shippensburg,
Greencastle, and York. Our objective is to provide all young ladies in our district with the
same opportunities as their male counterparts, including postseason play at the district, and
international Little League level 

We recognize that there are alternative options for girls to play softball in
independent leagues. However, what sets Little League apart is the opportunity to
participate in games beyond a championship weekend, which other Rec leagues and travel organizations do not
offer. We also understand that some leagues believe they cannot participate in Little
League due to travel players, but this is incorrect. Travel players are allowed to
participate in Little League, but they are not permitted to participate in travel
tournaments during postseason play.

We would like to offer all girls in our communities the opportunity to participate in
a nationally recognized organization and assist you in establishing the program within
your organizations. A common question we receive is, "Who do we have to play?" As
mentioned earlier, several organizations, including Gettysburg, which has offered the
program for several years, and Greencastle, which joined shortly after, are now offering
the program. Therefore, we have no reason not to establish and develop this program
within our districts. We currently have 8U, 10U, and 12U teams forming and would like
to offer Junior and Senior divisions as well.
